Riverside's School Song

We Love Riverside

Riverside's school song was originally written by the 1995-96 fifth grade class. It has since been updated to include a verse for each of our annual themes.

Go Riverside and go the right way.
We're learning here every day.
It's fun here and you will see
That we're learning all about our history.

Ba doom ba doom, we love Riverside
Ba doom ba doom, we love Riverside
Ba doom ba doom, we love Riverside
Riverside's the place to be!

We're travelin' around the world.
We're takin' every boy and girl.
Things to see and people to meet, so
get your passports ready 'cause
it's gonna be neat!

(Chorus)

People touch our lives in so many ways.
Through how they act and what they say.
Explorers, heroes and inventors, too.
The next important person just might be you!

(Chorus)

Upcoming Events

Buddies

Riverside students are "partnered" with other students when they enter kindergarten.  Kindergartners will be buddies with a third grader, first graders are matched with fourth graders and second graders spend time with a student from the fifth grade.  Typically, they will get together on Fridays to do special activities, read together or do some other mentoring type activity.  Occasionally, buddies will go on field trips together, maybe to the park or the farm.

Buddies help promote the community atmosphere at Riverside.  Having an older pal help the younger students adjust to school life faster.  Having a younger buddy helps the older student to develop a sense of responsibility.  Camaraderie develops not only between individual buddies but also between buddy classrooms.

Student Led Conferences

Riverside believes that students participating in their conferences plays an important part in students taking responsibility for their work and their success. Throughout the year, students are required to keep examples of what they deem to be their most important work in a portfolio. Three times a year this portfolio, together with progress reports, provide the basis for students to report their progress to their parents during conferences. Conferences provide the opportunity for the student, the parents and the teacher to come together and communicate with each other the progress the student has made, areas of strengths and weaknesses, and to set goals for the future. The student is at the center of the discussion, in a leadership role, taking responsibility for his/her success.

The High Five Award

The High Five Award is Riverside's program to recognize model student behavior & effort. Each classroom develops a Model Citizen rubric. Each week, each teacher may select one student from his/her classroom to be the High Fiver. The High Fiver receives a certificate at the Monday morning assembly and is treated to lunch with the principal and the other High Fivers.

And why is it called the High Five Award? It's the Rubric thing! The high score on a Rubric is a five and these students have exemplified "High Five" behavior in the classroom.

Monday Morning Assemblies

Another unique aspect of Riverside is the way we start our week. Every Monday morning you will find the whole school, and lots of parents, in the multi-purpose room. There are all sorts of happenings, singing, student performances, announcements, celebrations, guest speakers and the highlight of the assemblies, the High Five awards. Starting our week together builds "community" feeling and gives our students the opportunity to shine as each class performs at least twice a year.
